My unit was installed in July of 2013. I rarely use my a/c unless it is going to be above 85 outside and it only runs a day or 2 when the temps usually drop back to 75 to 80 here in Pittsburgh.

I like the windows open as much as I can but there are times in the summer months that it must be used. So in 2016, I alerted my semi annual tech on his visit that the unit is not cooling as he had done the first 2 seasons. He thought it may have been due to another issue regarding some type of valve that my unit may be affected, but the a/c company never called to let me know if my unit was affected. So for 2017 they came out to do the summer check and said everything was good for the summer start up and the performance was the same for 2017, cool but not cold.

Then I just had them here for the 2018 start up and I asked the tech to put the pressure gauges on the system to check the Freon level, and he said it was lower than the specs called for, so he opened the coil access panel on the furnace and told me that my coils were showing visible rust and corrosion on the copper tubes that make up the a/c evaporator coil thus resulting in leaks and eventually failed a/c cooling. I spent $6,123.00 on a new HVAC system only to NOW spend another $700.00 to possibly fix the problem hopefully for who know how long. I now see that soooo many people have been affected by the same problem for such a long time. NO WAY should these "KNOW DEFECTIVE COILS" been installed into hard working consumers homes who struggle to pay their bills and to support their families knowing that in a short time, they will leak and eventually totally fail to hold a Freon charge.

If my unit fails again, it will NOT BE REPAIRED..... I simply can't afford it !!!!!!!!! I want nothing for nothing.

I just want a quality product that will last more than 3 to 5 years for the astounding price of $6,123.00. Thank You........

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $700.

Preferred solution: Price reduction.

Location: Mckeesport, Pennsylvania

Mitchell Plumbing and Heating of Elizabeth PA. just installed my new evap.

coil in my HVAC system. The tech showed me the original defective unit that had major rust and corrosion thought the entire copper coil system. The new improved evap. coil is now made mostly of aluminum materials which definitely should not fail because of poor quality like the original one did.

It still did cost me after the Reehm labor rebate of $225.00 $470.00 which was for the labor and Freon cost to install the new evap. coil. It took between 3 and 4 hours to complete the job. They guarantee the repair for 1 year, so even though I probably will not be using my a/c unit much more for 2018, I will definitely give it a workout in the summer of 2019.

Also I can also tell the cooling difference between the old and the new unit.

It is cold like it was back in 2013 when it was new. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the nightmare is finally over.

Rheem is the worst air conditioning system you could buy. Buyer beware!

Iโ€™ve had my air conditioning system installed at my home less than two years it has been repaired five times. I also had a Rheem air-conditioning system installed at our family preschool at the same time I had the home one installed and itโ€™s been repaired three times. Bottom line donโ€™t buy a Rheem air conditioner system!!!

They are a piece of absolute junk! And so far Rheem wonโ€™t do anything about it even though theyโ€™re both supposedly under warranty!
